Mathematica in Education and Research
Submission Guidelines for Authors

Mathematica in Education and Research publishes articles, notes, and special features on the use of Mathematica in all aspects of higher education. The scope of topics covered is wide-ranging and includes the use of Mathematica in the teaching of technical subjects in all of the engineering, scientific, and mathematical disciplines as well as in the carrying out of basic and applied research in these areas. The intended audience for the articles is broad in its interests, including students, professors, and professionals---specialists as well those without an extensive background in the subject of the article. The journal encourages extensive interactions between authors and audience via electronic correspondence by way of the journal editorial staff or directly with authors and editors of articles and columns.

Articles may contain presentations of curricular issues, software/hardware concerns, discussion of pedagogy, administrative issues, or descriptions of new or ongoing projects that make use of Mathematica in your discipline. We also welcome descriptions of student projects as well as articles from students themselves.

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their materials in electronic form either as a Mathematica notebook or as a LATEX (or TEX) file. Text files (produced in text editors or word processors) are also acceptable so long as they only contain ASCII characters. Tables and figures should be generated electronically. Graphics images can only be included if they can be manipulated electronically. In general, this means PostScript, Encapsulated PostScript, of TIFF images. Bitmap images cannot be used.

Note: HTML formatted documents now accepted. Yes, you can submit your article as an HTML document. You are responsible for checking the integrity of all links and images. Graphics for Web documents should be prepared as GIF or JPEG files. If you have any questions, contact the editor for details on this form of submitting your articles.

We encourage submission of material through email, although a 3.5 inch high density diskette (any format) is also acceptable. Under all circumstances, you should submit 3 paper copies of your manuscript to ensure formatting and typesetting consistency.

The code for all articles that appear in Mathematica in Education and Research will be made available on MathSource and at the TELOS Web site and can be obtained by anonymous ftp, gopher services, and electronic mail. Authors should prepare a notebook and/or source code file for this distribution and submit it with their manuscript.

Files can be sent by anonymous FTP to ftp.telospub.com. After connecting, login as ``anonymous'' giving your email address as password. Then change directories to pub/incoming and deposit your file(s) there. Please note that this directory is write only, so you will be able to write to it, but you will not have privileges to see what is in the directory (i.e., an ls command will return an empty list).
